Baked Apples with Honey & Oats Recipe

This cosy recipe for Baked Apples with Honey & Oats is like a warm hug in pudding form. With soft, juicy apples and a golden oat filling, it’s the perfect balance of comfort and sweetness, finished with a generous drizzle of Just Bee Honey for that irresistible sticky finish.

Any of our honeys will work well here, but we recommend Royal Honey for its beautifully rich and creamy flavour. It melts into the warm apples and oats, adding just the right touch of indulgence with natural goodness.

Ideal for Sunday suppers, autumn afternoons or even a slightly sweet breakfast treat.

Ingredients

 (serves 4)

  • 4 large eating apples (such as Braeburn, Gala or Pink Lady)
  • ½ cup (45g) rolled oats
  • ¼ cup (30g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans work well)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Just Bee Honey (we recommend Royal Honey for richness)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or coconut oil
  • A small pinch of salt

To serve (optional):

  • Extra drizzle of honey
  • Greek yoghurt, crème fraîche or custard

Method

1. Preheat the Oven:
Heat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan). Lightly grease a small baking dish that fits the apples snugly.

2. Prepare the Apples:
Carefully core each apple using a sharp knife or apple corer, making sure not to cut all the way through—leave a little base to hold the filling. Use a teaspoon to hollow out a little more space if needed.

3. Make the Filling:
In a bowl, mix together the oats, chopped nuts, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), salt, melted butter and honey until everything is well coated.

4. Fill the Apples:
Spoon the oat mixture into each apple, pressing down lightly to pack it in.

5. Bake:
Place the apples in the prepared dish and add a splash of water (about 2–3 tablespoons) to the bottom to keep them moist. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes until the apples are soft and the tops are golden.

6. Serve:
Serve warm, drizzled with a little extra Just Bee Honey, and a dollop of yoghurt or a spoonful of custard if you fancy.

These Baked Apples with Honey & Oats are a lovely mix of soft fruit, gently spiced oats and natural sweetness. And with the mellow richness of Royal Honey, they feel just a little bit luxurious too.

Comforting, nourishing and just the right amount of sweet. 🍎🍯✨

  • Can you cook this in an air fryer as I’m an elderly lady who lives on her own and would not use so many apples so I would reduce the quantities of everything but ovens use a lot of electricity!! Lol 😝

  • I used to make this with cooking apples in a special dish with a lid and no honey, yes sugar – bad old days!!
    Looking forward to making this,.
